First, a little bit of French...
Bienvenue sur mon site. Voici deux liens pour les lecteurs français aux commentaires de mon roman Les Anagrammes de Varsovie, qui sera présenté à Bruxelles le 22 mai à 18 heures à la Librairie Filigranes:
Welcome to my wesbite!
You can read the first chapters of my novels, as well as some recent short stories and articles I've written. I've also got photographs and videos - and more biographical information about me than you could probably ever want!
Please consider following me on Facebook. You will get the latest news about my activities and find out exactly what's up with me and my writing: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Richard-Zimler/179279892106230?fref=ts (I can't add any more friends because I've already reached the limit of 5,000.)
My article about my book tour in Poland to promote The Warsaw Anagrams is up at a great American website about writers and writing, Talking Writing: http://talkingwriting.com/a-tale-of-two-polands/ The article is getting interesting comments. If you read the piece, please consider writing something about it.
I've just written a new song for a project I'm doing with a musical duo from Porto, Moon(in)Motion. The song is about my brother who died in 1989 and is called "I Remember it was May": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrgKEFV569g&feature=plcp
My new novel (in the USA) THE SEVENTH GATE was published in the USA and Canada in mid-May! You can order it here: http://www.amazon.com/Seventh-Gate-Richard-Zimler/dp/1590207130/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1
You can see color images of the illustrations that I did for the book here: http://redroom.com/member/richard-zimler/media/image-galleries/illustrations-pastels-from-my-novel-the-seventh-gate
A wonderful review of The Seventh Gate just came out from the Historical Novel Society: http://historicalnovelsociety.org/reviews/the-seventh-gate/ Please share this review with your friends. THANK YOU!
Among other things, the review says: "(The Seventh Gate) is a mystery on one level and there is mysticism, but that isn’t what this book is about in the final analysis. It is a personal, intense exploration of the maturation of a young woman into a force of nature, bearing unbearable pain, meeting the most difficult of obstacles, during one of the most horrific periods in human history. There is a quiet ferocity here that I haven’t experienced in a book in a long time. It is disturbing, heartbreaking, joyful all at the same time – enough to keep you awake. This must be read. I haven’t been affected like this by a book in ages."
The paperback of THE WARSAW ANAGRAMS came out recently in the USA! To see the cover, which is very different from the hardback, go here: http://www.amazon.com/The-Warsaw-Anagrams-Richard-Zimler/dp/1590208471/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1335290720&sr=8-2
My new novel (in Great Britain and Australia) STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER will not be published at the end of July, as was originally scheduled. This is due to financial problems at Arcadia Books. I am very disappointed, of course. My agent will be approaching other publishers over the summer. You can read a synopsis and the first chapter on my website by clicking on "Books" and then clicking on the cover of this novel.
THE SEVENTH GATE recently received a great pre-publication review in Publishers' Weekly. It was starred and boxed, which is a great honor. You can read the review here: http://www.publishersweekly.com/978-1590207130 Please send the review to your friends in the English-speaking world. Thanks.
You can read the first chapter of the book here on my website. Just click on "Books" and then the cover of The Seventh Gate.
THE WARSAW ANAGRAMS has recently been published in Holland (Karakter), Italy (Piemme) and Spain (Urano)! I would be grateful if you would tell your Dutch, Italian and Spanish-speaking friends about the book.
A wonderful review has just come out in La Repubblica in Rome. You can see it here: http://www.informazionecorretta.com/main.php?mediaId=&sez=80&id=43571 Please send the link to your Italian friends. Thank you.
Or, if they read English, you can send them this glorious review from the San Francisco Chronicle. You can read the entire review in the section News. Or you can go to the link:
The review includes this wonderful quote: "Author Richard Zimler has been deservedly called "an American Umberto Eco," and has his own high standards to live up to. With his latest novel, "The Warsaw Anagrams," he not only reaches those heights but thoroughly surpasses them. Equal parts riveting, heartbreaking, inspiring and intelligent, this mystery set in the most infamous Jewish ghetto of World War II deserves a place among the most important works of Holocaust literature."
A very good interview has come out in the Los Angeles Times. In it, I discuss my tour through Poland to promote the Polish edition of The Warsaw Anagrams. Here is the link: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/books/la-ca-1225-sirens-call-20111225,0,3341127.story
Another fine review has come out in the American magazine Booklist. It includes this great quote: "Zimler brings the dailiness of life in the ghetto—both its overwhelming horror and claustrophobia and its moments of startling humanity—to vivid, sometimes unbearable life, all in the context of a nightmare version of the classic locked-room mystery. Gripping and deeply disturbing."

This novel has been a bestseller in Portugal, I Italy and Great Britain, so we'll hope for the best in America.
My book of kabbalistic haiku, Love's Voice, was pubilshed in mid-August, from Jeremy P. Tarcher Books (Penguin). You can see the cover and order the book here: http://www.amazon.com/Loves-Voice-72-Kabbalistic-Haiku/dp/1585428930
I toured Poland in November to promote the Polish edition of The Warsaw Anagrams. To read my article about my experiences there, go to: http://www.thejc.com/lifestyle/lifestyle-features/60812/welcome-poland-its-where-my-family-were-killed
Other News: My crossover novel "Strawberry Fields Forever" came out in Portugal on May 8 and was a bestseller for six weeks, reaching Number 1 at the Leitura/Bulhosa bookshop chain. In Portuguese, the title is "Ilha Teresa" (Teresa Island). British rights have been sold to Arcadia Books, which will publish the book in February of 2012. Brazilian rights have already sold to Record. My Portuguese publisher chose to give the book a cover with a 1960s feel because of the connection to John Lennon and the Beatles in the book (one of the main characters is a huge Lennon fan and the climax of the novel take splace at the Strawberry Fields memorial in New York's Central Park).
